Travel tips for traveling internationally with baby?
Hello,
I'm a single mom and will be traveling with my 7 month old from Germany to Colorado. I'm going to be traveling alone with my daughter. What are some tips and things to do when I fly? How will I go to the restroom with her? Or sleep? It's a 10hr flight. How can I keep us both happy? Do I have to change her in those small bathrooms? Or can I do it somewhere cleaner?
Thanks!
On 2009, I traveled from Kuala Lumpur to London for 12 hours with my 12 month old baby and my wife. There were 2 hours transit at Heathrow before we flew again to Dublin. It was lots of preasures, especially when we needed to change terminals. I admit it's going to be very challenging for you to travel alone with small baby. Here are some of my suggestions:
1. Prior departure, request to change your seat which facing 'wall' inside the cabin where the wall has hooks to hold mini baby cot. The flight will provide the cot. It's not easy to hold your baby in hand for 10 hours I suggest you to change your seat via online few days or maybe weeks before departure date. If there are no seats available, request from flight attendants before you sit and let them talk to passengers who have those seats for an exchange
2. You need to time yourself when you're going to the toilet, I mean when the baby sleeps or awakes. Just in case you need to go to the toilet when your baby is in deep sleep, you may ask flight attendant to have a look at your baby for few minutes
3. There are baby changing rooms but they share with toilet. It's not big but comfortable enough to change baby nappies
4. I'm not sure about your baby, but I used to entertain my baby by downloading cartoons, animations, singing videos etc and copy them to smartphone or iPad if possible. Bring some small toys. Once a while, you can carry your baby and walk around the cabin.
5. Befriend with your neighboring seats. They might help playing and entertaining your baby
6. Put your bag under your seat, it's easier to reach when you need napkin, or nappy
7. Sleep when your baby sleeps. You need a good rest, it's going to be more tiring when you have landed and collecting bags, pushing buggy/stroller etc
Wow! That's it! My aunt went to Canada last year and during a stop over she lost her son. Good thing a staff found him and bring him back to my aunt! Well, I guess mothers should stay alert always when traveling with a baby or a kid.
