August Landmesser (born May 24, 1910, presumably killed February 1944) was a worker at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, best known for his appearance in a photograph refusing to perform the Nazi salute at the launch of the naval training vessel Horst Wessel on 13 June 1936.



Sedikit latar belakang august landmesser ni..dia joint nazi party (NSDAP) pada 1931 sebagai pekerja biasa..pada 1935 dia bertunang dengan seorang perempuan yahudi bernama erma heckler dan tros keluar dari nazi party.29 oktober 1929 anak pertamanya, ingrid lahir.1937 landmesser cuba bawa lari keluarga dia ke denmark tapi dia ditahan dan didakwa memalukan bangsa sebab kawin dgn seorang yahudi..pada masa yg sama isteri dia sedang mengandungkan anak kedua.

Irma hekcler ditahan oleh gestapo..ingrid dibenarkan tinggal bersama atok dan neneknya sementara irene anak kedua landmesser dihantar ke rumah anak yatim piatu.Landmesser di istiyarkan missing in action di 999th Fort Infantry Battalion.
