why does the engine stop? we are driving along when the engine stops, we pull over and restart the engine. we can drive for hundred of more miles before it fail again. we have changed the fuel regulator, fuel filter, cleaned the injector. The car has been check over by Infiniti Service Department on 2 occasions and they have no suggestion to solving the problem. fails mainly when we are slowing down for traffic light or turning. Now and then the engine judder but normally it runs smoothly.

tims auto repair : when does it stall?

Customer : most of the time when comming to a stop but it has also happened a couple times now on the freeway

tims auto repair : does the engine just die as if the key was turned off?

Customer : just stalls no deiseling effect just quits and yes

tims auto repair : ok

tims auto repair : does it do this cold or,,does the engine have to be warm?

Customer : after wrecking yard ecu it still has same problem but shows 3 codes and mostly after it is warm

Customer : codes are 0402 and 2 others pertaining to emmisions stuff

tims auto repair : ok

tims auto repair : what are the other two codes?

Customer : i can look up the other 2 if you need

Customer : just sec

tims auto repair : ok

Customer : 0807 and 1008

tims auto repair : ok

tims auto repair : one moment

Customer : i have cleared these twice and they came back

tims auto repair : a couple of things here

tims auto repair : remove and clean the egr valve with carb cleaner

tims auto repair : but

tims auto repair : i think your dying problem is the crank sensor

tims auto repair : these will do this sometimes when they go bad

tims auto repair : also..check the wire harness that gos to the crank sensor

Customer : wouldnt that throw a code?

tims auto repair : sometimes the drive belt will wear into the harness

tims auto repair : no,,,most times when a crank sensor does this,,,it wont give a code

tims auto repair : it is located in the upper oil pan

tims auto repair : i would think this will fix your problem

CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (CKPS) (POS)
The crankshaft position sensor (POS) is located on the oil pan facing the gear teeth (cogs) of the signal plate (flywheel). It detects the crankshaft position signal (1 signal).
The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, core and coil.

When engine is running, the gap between the sensor and the gear teeth (cogs) will periodically change. Permeability near the sensor also changes.

Due to the permeability change, the magnetic flux near the core is changed. Therefore, the voltage signal generated in the coil is changed.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) receives the voltage signal and detects the crankshaft position signal (1 signal).

Customer : when you say upper oil pan you dont meen in the oilpan do you?

Customer : what about the trouble codes dont think they are part of this problem?

tims auto repair : the one is an egr code

Customer : hahaha

tims auto repair : the other two dont exist for your car

tims auto repair : but,,it is a transmission code

Customer : and the old ecu didnt throw that code so i was wandering if this ecu is trying to find something that is not there to be found

tims auto repair : very possible..sense it is a junkyard computer

tims auto repair : install the original and a crank sensor

3 benda kena check -> EGR, REF & POS.

EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. This exhaust mixes with the intake air and actually cools the combustion process. Cooler is always better inside your engine. The exhaust your EGR valve recirculates also prevents the formation of Nitrogen related gases. These are referred to as NOX emissions, and are a common cause for failing emissions testing. Unfortunately, your EGR valve can get stuck, causing NOX gases to build up. You'll know if your EGR valve is stuck or malfunctioning because your car will experience symptoms like rough idle and bucking on acceleration.


Because an EGR valve reuses exhaust fumes it collects a build up of Carbon Deposit, these can cause the EGR valve to block and stay open/closed and cause stuttering driving. An EGR valve can be dismantled and cleaned using a carb cleaner or similar solvent and re greased. Another issue with EGR valves is the Solenoid can become rusty, this can also be removed and rubbed down with wire wool, greased and re-assembled. Its a very simple DIY job and takes roughly an hour with little experience. Google the make of your car as there are loads of guides for cleaning the EGR valve.

Saya dalam dilema,
Katakan saya jadi ambik yg 2003 then terus buat overhaul, tukar semua yg selalu buat problem mcm thermo suis, water pump etc, adakah risiko overheat sebab lining and t join mcm yg sellalu jadi tu tak jadi dah? Or saya terus beli enjin ria yg baru?
Pendapat dan nasihat tuan2 terutama yg pernah overhaul enjin amatlah dialukan
