Simon Davey is expecting to have a fight on his hands to keep goalkeeper Heinz Muller at Barnsley in January.


Muller has impressed at Oakwell since joining the club from Lillestrom in the summer and has already been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Tykes boss Davey is not surprised by the interest in the German, but hopes he can hang on to the keeper.

"It probably will be a fight to keep Heinz in January, but we will cross that bridge when it comes," said Davey in the Yorkshire Post. "My job is to try and keep the group together and see if we can improve.

Liverpool are reported to be closing in on the signing of Zenit St Petersburg defender Martin Skrtel.

Reports emanating from Slovakia claim Liverpool are ready to pay in the region of £7million to land the 23-year-old.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed he is looking to bring in a central defender in this month's transfer window to bolster his squad and it appears Skrtel is his man.

Liverpool have struggled for numbers in central defence this season with Daniel Agger still sidelined through injury and Alvaro Arbeloa has been forced to play as a makeshift centre-half in some games.

The Slovakian international is highly regarded and is believed to have attracted the interest of the likes of Valencia, Newcastle, Tottenham and Everton.

However, Liverpool are thought to have stolen a march on their rivals by tabling a firm offer for Skrtel.

Skrtel's agent has also claimed the defender is set to join Liverpool.

LFC Rumours

I was the one who told you all that Jurgen Klinsmann was going to be the next Bayern boss, and was I right? Deffo Anyway, to some serious stuff now, Liverpool will not be going for Ashley Cole but Wayne Bridge instead in the Summer. Rafa, who will still be manager at the club prefers Bridge as he is an attacking full back and gets superb balls into the box like Finnan on the right. Rafa is keen to have this type of player for when Jan Klass Huntelaar signs for £9 million in the Summer to get the balls into the box for him. Dirk Kuyt will move the other way as part of the Huntelaar deal. Riise will move on to a foreign club possibly Valencia, he does not want to join another Premier league club. Villa will not sign Carson permenantly, he has been quite weak for them this season and therefore will move on to a club such as Middlesbrough. Momo leaves in January for an initial loan to Valencia. David Villa will join Anfield in the Summer for £12 million + Momo. The Reds will then have the best strike force in the League with Torres, Villa, Huntelaar and Peter Crouch who will not be sold. Haven't heard anymore transfer facts as such yet but will keep you posted.

Walsall defender daniel fox is subject of a £500,000 bid from Leeds although this is likely to be rejected by Richard money also Walsall are looking to sign Lincoln midfielder Lee frecklington and they are looking for some loan additions from Premiership sides.

NEWCASTLE boss Kevin Keegan is reported to be considering a move for Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia.
The Finnish defender is coming towards the end of his contract at Anfield, and it is widely thought that at 34 he will not be offered another one.

Keegan is looking to add an experienced Premier League centre-half to his squad, and reports suggest he could be set to pay £1m to take Hyppia to St James's Park during this month's transfer window.

Hyypia has said he wants to remain on Merseyside for the rest of the season, but his chances of first-team football are likely to be reduced by the return of Daniel Agger to the side.

Real Madrid have finally decided to stop casting a shadow over Manchester United and Arsenal. Sky Sports reports that the Spanish club’s sports director Predrag Mijatovic has made it clear to Radio Marca that Real will waste no more time or energy pursuing Cristiano Ronaldo and Cesc Fabregas.

Mijatovic, a former Real player, said:

”Cristiano Ronaldo is at a great club in Manchester United. I see it as an impossible signing. We are not the only team who would like to have a player like Cesc, but he belongs to a big club in Arsenal and it is an almost impossible signing. I am very clear that we are not going to waste time on things we can not do.”

After over two years of wild speculation, Real have ultimately decided to drop the matter altogether. Yet, being Real Madrid, they might just be hatching some other plans. RAFA BENITEZ is weighing up a swoop for Argentinian playmaker Pablo Aimar.

The Liverpool boss is looking into the possibility of signing Aimar from Real Zaragoza after being alerted to his availability.

Benitez has managed Aimar previously when the pair worked together at Valencia – a time which Aimar openly admits was his most productive as a player.

Since then he has gone on to star for Zaragoza in La Liga after a £8.5m move from Valencia in July 2006.

That Anelka already qualifies for journeyman status at 28 should not detract from the fact that he remains one of Europe's most predatory finishers.

The French international appears to have matured in recent years and if he realises Avram Grant has offered him his last chance of serious silverware he could prove an inspired buy.

Taylor's signing is a shining light for Bolton in what has been a largely unhappy season. Losing one manager, a star striker and a host of matches has been a chastening experience but in Taylor they have a versatile, hard-working performer. Although the short-term nature of Fernandes' return to Goodison Park means it has hardly been a headline story, it could yet prove crucial in their bid to edge out local rivals Liverpool in the race for fourth place. He will provide vital cover in midfield - something injuries and suspensions to Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta have made a priority - and with an agreement in place to make the move permanent, manager David Moyes could have secured a bargain for a man Valencia paid around £17million for last year.

After a proposed move to Fulham fell through, Latics boss Steve Bruce was on hand to take the gamble on Watford line-leader King. He boasts an impressive record in the lower leagues but a serious knee injury deprived him of the chance to prove himself a top-flight match-winner during the Hornets' brief sojourn in the top division. Wigan's relegation battle could be decided by his success or failure this time.


LASSANA DIARRA (Arsenal to Portsmouth, £5million)

For several years now, Diarra has been a promise left unfulfilled. Frustrated by a lack of chances at Chelsea and equally unhappy at the opportunities afforded during a five-month stint with the Gunners, Fratton Park could be his last chance to crack the Premier League. An exciting prospect but has already talked about leaving the club in the future and there are some doubts about his best position.


MARTIN SKRTEL (Zenit St Petersburg to Liverpool, £6.5million)

By breaking the club's defensive transfer record to sign the 23-year-old Slovak international, Rafael Benitez has invested plenty of faith in Skrtel.

With his relations with the Reds' American owners constantly under the microscope - and transfer funds a key point of conflict - he will have to prove

himself a shrewd acquisition quickly if the Spaniard is to petition for more big cheques.


AFONSO ALVES (Heerenveen to Middlesbrough, undisclosed)

Boro did not reveal precisely how much the Brazil striker cost to prise from Heerenveen, but they did admit it broke their previous benchmark of £8.1million forked out on Massimo Maccarone in 2002. The Teessiders will hope for a better return than they got from the Italian, and a goal record of nearly a goal a game in Holland bodes well. However, as the likes of Dirk Kuyt and Georgios Samaras have demonstrated, success in the Eredivisie does not necessarily translate into glory in the Premier League.

Arsenal to try their luck on Diego Capel?

Everyone knows about the North London rivalry that exists between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and now everyone will know that they are set to battle for the 19-year old Sevilla left back Diego Capel.

This report suggests that the Gunners are preparing a £8 million bid for the Spanish Under20 international in the summer. Capel is one of the most gifted individuals in the Spanish game and Spurs were linked to the player in the month of January.

But now Arsenal appear to have shot themselves into the race. With Spurs going through a difficult patch and the Gunners on the up, it wouldn’t be hard for anyone to guess which club would Capel choose. But Spurs have Juande Ramos as their manager and maybe he could lure Capel to White Hart Lane.
